Deep Business Know-Hows to Mitigate the Cold Start Problem of Data-Driven Intelligent Solutions

By: Jessie Danqing CaiSenior Research Manager, Michael AranetaAssociate Vice President, IDC Financial Insights, Gerald WangHead, Asia Pacific Public Sector

Abstract

The cold start problem — in which training data is far from being optimal for the engine of machine intelligence to kick-start or run at satisfactory conditions — is prevalent in the enterprise world, where the data layer consists mostly of proprietary business, operational, and transactional data, and is not readily usable from the availability, quality, or governance perspective. At the PwC Shanghai Analyst Day held on May 24, 2018, two Greater China-based enterprises, a leading global biopharmaceutical company and Bridgeharbour (a subsidiary of BIPPO Advisory Group), talked about the cold start problem when onboarding solutions powered by machine intelligence, and how the deep business know-hows of PwC have proved to be instrumental.
