Asia/Pacific (Excluding Japan and Greater China) Carrier Equipment Spending Analysis, 2016–2017 and Forecast 2018–2022
By: Bill Rojas Adjunct Research Director, IDC Asia/Pacific, Hugh Ujhazy Vice President, IoT and Telecommunications
Abstract
This study analyzes the network equipment spending (capex) and total capital expenditures (CAPEX) in the region in both fixed-line and mobile networks. Mobile network spending represents roughly 59–66% of the total network equipment spending in the region as leading MNOs in advanced markets continue to add capacity, whereas emerging markets continue to expand macrocell coverage and indoor coverage in public spaces.
"The rapid rise of LTE handset penetration in the region, combined with FTTP buildouts in certain markets in the region, such as India, Malaysia, and Vietnam, has helped CSPs implement convergence strategies, setting the stage for 5G buildout for mobile and FWA services in the next three to five years," says Bill Rojas, adjunct research director, IDC Asia/Pacific.
