Abstract

Although heavily integrated and embedded into the global economy, Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (APEJ) has unique dynamics and characteristics that set it apart from the rest of the world. The engine for the region is still China and the country's influence over its neighbors and the rest of the world only grows. Developed countries in APEJ, including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Hong Kong, are starting to become quite mature in their cloud and datacenter technology adoption. Many businesses are now starting to look to developing countries Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand for new opportunities. However, the adoption of datacenter and cloud services in these countries is still maturing. The Philippines and Vietnam are still yet to fully engage with the benefits and opportunities that datacenter and cloud services provide.

APEJ enterprises are starting the next phase of their digital transformation (DX) efforts. This has involved pushing applications and workloads to the edge to support the customer and employee experience. These experiences are enhanced through artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies. The multicloud architecture has been increasingly adopted, including composite applications, containers, microservices, data protection and privacy, colocation services, and as-a-service payment models. However, despite the strong development in the region because of China, countries in APEJ are at very different stages of economic and technological development as well as engagement with these technologies. Between now and 2025, CIOs and their teams will need to address new developments in the datacenter. Based on these developments, this IDC study discusses the APEJ datacenter top 10 predictions for 2020.
