By: Bill RojasAdjunct Research Director, IDC Asia/Pacific, Hugh UjhazyVice President, IoT and Telecommunications

Abstract

This study analyzes the equipment capex and total CAPEX in the region for both fixed-line and mobile networks. Mobile network spending represents roughly 66–72% of the total equipment CAPEX in the region.

"The proliferation of LTE devices and services, as well as the steady rise in fiber to the 'x' (FTTX) connections are transforming countries in APEJC into digital economies spurring ecommerce, ebanking, eretailing, ride sharing, edelivery, and so on. As operators plan and build out their 5G networks, they will consider upgrading/overhauling their transport networks to better manage quality of experience, support scalability, low-latency services, and network slicing. Consumers will be the early benefactors of 5G services in the region. However, by 2023, the impact of 5G will be visible in enterprises, governments, and Smart Cities," says Bill Rojas, adjunct research director, IDC Asia/Pacific.
