Asia/Pacific Future Small and Medium-sized Businesses Survey 2019
Digital transformation (DX) has mostly been an enterprise-centric theme for the past years, and many of these large organizations have made good progress. Although enterprises understand the urge for DX, most small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) are still in "status quo" mode, asking questions such as "Why should we change?" and "What do we need to do?"
Although many SMBs are still reactive and only making minimal investments in technologies, a new breed of SMBs is emerging and setting the benchmark for what is possible to achieve. Digital technologies are enabling new ways to connect, communicate, collaborate, and transact, allowing for growth opportunities, particularly for SMBs.
The objective of IDC's Asia/Pacific Future SMB Survey is to identify key business and technology priorities, challenges, and preferences of SMBs in the region. The survey also shows how SMBs in the region have been impacted by DX as well as how mature they are when it comes to embracing and adopting digital technologies that will then help them to evolve into Future SMBs.
This survey will examine some of the key business and technology priorities, challenges, and preferences, which include:
- Top business priorities, such as improving revenue growth, efficiency, productivity, and cost reduction, while balancing product and service quality and growth, managing cashflow, and improving brand awareness
- Technology investments in network/connectivity, workspace equipment, business applications, and cloud services, among others, as well as SMB payment preferences and vendor considerations, all as SMBs consider top technology priorities and DX efforts
This survey will also provide an overview of the Future SMB, the gold standard that SMBs in the region must follow in order to be successful in the digital economy. There are five masteries under the Future SMB state: agile culture, agile capital, agile processes, agile experiences, and agile partnerships. Lastly, this survey explores how SMBs in the region believe they will fare in these five masteries by the end of 2020.
