Mobile Connectivity Choices for Mining Companies
Mining operations will become increasingly dependent on connectivity capabilities as they digitise, and the dependency on data to drive, automate, and inform operational becomes an increasing factor in the management and execution within mining operations. Mining companies need to consider their connectivity investments in the context of the kind of digital outcomes they want to be able to deliver over the time horizon of their business and technology road map.
"Reliable, resilient, and ubiquitous connectivity networking is a critical foundation for the kind of digital environment mining companies are moving toward," says Emilie Ditton, associate VP, IDC Energy Insights. "Mining companies must work to build out their road maps to plan for what is required now to deliver integrated digital operations. Autonomy, artificial intelligence, short-interval control, and operational applications in the cloud require connectivity capabilities delivered on a consistent basis and managed for zero tolerance of failure like any other asset," she adds.
