Disruptive Technology Use Cases in the Asia/Pacific Utilities Sector
By: Emilie DittonAVP, Energy Insights and Manufacturing Insights, Jayesh Verma
This IDC presentation focuses on the disruptions of various key technologies, such as Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, artificial intelligence (AI), and implementations of key digital transformation (DX) use cases by utilities across the Asia/Pacific region. In this context, IDC defines "disruption" as having a glance of the utility environment, which resulted from a total rethinking of what it means to be a utility. Disruption level varies between countries in the Asia/Pacific region where developing markets are extending the electricity reach to remote areas, and developed markets are encouraging peer-to-peer electricity transfer. In addition, utility players across the region are partnering with technology providers, seeking a prevalent solution to overcome the challenges and meet the demand.
"Utility players in Asia are investing in digital technologies, mainly driven by expectations to improve reliability, efficiency, safety, and operational performance while reducing overall cost," says Jayesh Verma, research manager, Energy Insights, IDC Asia/Pacific.
