Abstract

This IDC Survey looks at the technology investment priorities in utilities organizations in Southeast Asia. In most countries in the region, characterized by government ownership, regulation, and integrated operators across the value chain, the level of technology maturity in relation to cloud, mobility, analytics, and Internet of Things (IoT) is just developing. Technology efforts in the sector are developing at a good pace but needs a boost for better outcomes.

These technology capabilities are critical for utilities. Organizations are juggling dual priorities of seeking to innovate at the same time delivering a step change in efficiency. Improving efficiencies is mission-critical for utility companies in Southeast Asia while managing the operations cost-effectively. This report shares the results from IDC's 2018 Asia/Pacific Energy Survey for utilities organizations.

"Utilities companies in Southeast Asia are at early stages of enabling digital capabilities and are committed to drive value from technology-led transformation and are embracing the latest technologies to achieve operational efficiency in a cost-effective manner," says Jayesh Verma, research manager, Energy Insights, IDC Asia/Pacific.
