IDC FutureScape: Worldwide Payments 2017 Predictions — European Implications
By: Thomas ZinkResearch Director, Lawrence Freeborn, Sabitha MajukumarSenior Research Analyst, Worldwide Insurance Strategies
This IDC presentation examines the European implications of our Worldwide Payments 2017 Predictions published in November 2016. The European predictions can vary in impact and timeframe from the worldwide predictions and provide a regional analysis of the overarching trends, the impact on IT and business, and provide guidance for technology buyers.
In 2017 the agenda is clearly dominated by two technologies: blockchain and cognitive. These two areas, albeit in early stages of maturity as of now, will dominate the innovation agenda of many payment providers in the region. Other key technologies highlighted in the FutureScape are the Internet of Things, the impact of PSD2 mandating the opening of APIs for payment initiation and account aggregation, the move to RTGS systems, and the platform economy.
This presentation is aimed at technology buyers to help them identify trending themes, including the leadership level as it gives a high-level overview of the technology and its impact on IT and business. It also provides guidance to IT vendors where IDC expects financial services IT spending to focus and highlights key focus areas of IDC research in the coming 12 months. As such it provides guidance for analyst relations to contribute to upcoming research reports.
