By: Gaurav VermaResearch Manager, IDC Energy Insights

On-line Presentation

This IDC Survey analyzes a portion of the 2018 IDC Energy Insights Annual Survey of the European oil and gas (O&G) industry. The survey was carried out between July and October 2018 and targeted managers with IT responsibilities. It analyzes data for oil and gas companies across 13 European countries (France, Germany, the U.K., Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Russia) from the upstream, midstream, services, and downstream segments.

The presentation focuses on 3rd Platform technologies, which consists of four pillars (i.e., social media, mobility, cloud, and Big Data analytics) and Innovation Accelerators (i.e., IoT, AI, robotics, AR/VR, 3D printing, blockchain, and next-generation security). This document does not contain survey data related to blockchain and next-generation security.

3rd Platform technologies are drivers of the digital transformation journey. In the challenging oil and gas market, it is of paramount importance to keep track of industry trends in terms of 3rd Platform technologies' current adoption and their planned adoption for the next 12 months. This document will provide insights into digital technologies' major use cases, subindustry market penetration, and O&G players' preferences in the European O&G industry.

"Stay awake, and keep an eye on oil industry trends in terms of their shifting focus from one pain point to another for indications on what digital technology will be in demand in the future," said Gaurav Verma, oil and energy research manager, IDC Europe.
