This IDC Survey analyzes data from IDC Energy Insights' 2018 Worldwide Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) Convergence Survey. The document takes a specific look at IT/OT convergence trends in North American utilities. This document includes the survey results on utilities' attitudes toward IT/OT convergence and their organizational structure and governance models for IT and OT functions, IT and OT security initiatives, and investment priorities around IT/OT convergence.
The larger IT/OT worldwide survey collected data from electricity, gas, and water utilities across two North American and eight European countries (France, Germany, Italy, the Nordics — comprising Denmark, Norway, and Sweden — the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom). The survey was based on 231 interviews carried out from April to June 2018 (of which 100 interviews were carried out in North America).
