Abstract

This IDC study discusses 2017 vendor shares and market activities across the worldwide DevOps software market. This is a relatively new IDC competitive software market that includes portions of revenue found in a number of IDC functional software markets, which is defined in IDC's Worldwide Software Taxonomy, 2017 (IDC #US42961816, August 2017). Specifically, revenue included in this analysis is drawn from the automated software quality (ASQ), deployment-centric application platforms (DCAPs), IT automation and configuration management (ITACM), IT operations management (ITOM), project and portfolio management (PPM) applications, and software change, configuration, and process management (SCCPM) functional markets.

"In 2017, the worldwide DevOps software market exceeded $3.8 billion for the first time and is on track to undoubtedly surpass $4 billion in 2018," explains Jim Mercer, research director, DevOps at IDC. "The market is currently highly fragmented. There are dozens of vendors competing to offer compelling solutions to better integrate, automate, scale, test, release, and optimize DevOps processes for a wide range of applications and industries."
