IDC MarketScape: U.S. Acute Care Electronic Health Record 2019 Vendor Assessment

By: Mutaz ShegewiResearch Director, Provider IT Transformation Strategies

This IDC study uses the IDC MarketScape model to provide an assessment of several vendors participating in the U.S. acute care electronic health records (EHR) market. The IDC MarketScape is an evaluation based on a comprehensive framework and set of parameters that assess vendors relative to one another and to those factors expected to be most conducive to success in a given market during the short term and long term. This study also introduces an early framework to rationalize what a next-generational acute care EHR solution entails and quantitative measures to determine the vendor's technology readiness and maturity levels from a next-generational standpoint.

"The first wave of EHRs (or EHR 1.0) enabled the industry with access to a digital version of a patient's record, where the second wave of EHR innovation and deployment (or EHR 2.0) seeks to drive the collective learnings and aspirations of the industry forward into a new era of clinical documentation and workflow transformation," says Mutaz Shegewi, research director, IDC Health Insights. "The results of this research demonstrate that diversified and, more importantly, next-generational acute care EHR strategies and capabilities are key for providers (and vendors) to improve their competitive positioning in the market and realize a state of future readiness for the EHR 2.0 era and beyond."
