IDC TechBrief: Asset Performance Management
By: Kevin Prouty Group Vice President, Energy and Manufacturing Insights, Reid Paquin Research Director
Abstract
This IDC TechBrief describes asset performance management (APM) and its impact on how operational companies manage their assets. The objective of an APM system is to collect data from operations, maintenance, vendors, markets, and other external sources to provide an analytical basis for asset decision making. APM is used to define optimum asset management strategies and to support real-time decision making based on asset performance.
According to Reid Paquin, research director for IDC Manufacturing Insights, "APM provides the platform that operational companies must use to take advantage of the large amounts of under-utilized data they currently have on their assets. And it becomes even more important as IoT technology accelerates the flow of asset data that is available."
