On-line Presentation

Abstract

This IDC Survey presents trends in big data and analytics for 2018. Results from the 2018 survey to quantify adoption and spend on big data and analytics are consistent with previous years. Healthcare payers' adoption of big data and analytics technology continues ahead of healthcare providers. In light of the increase in data breaches and deployment of ransomware globally in healthcare organizations, it is not surprising that both healthcare payers and healthcare providers indicated that the primary application of big data and analytics in 2018 was to increase security in their organizations. "For the first time, IDC has captured both the duration (mean at 6–8 months) of big data projects and the cost (mean at $50,000–250,000) of such efforts, and payers are out spending providers as well. The additional data will provide guidance to IDC clients looking for benchmarks for big data initiatives." — Cynthia Burghard, research director, IDC Health Insights
