Collaboration Study Highlight: The 80:20 Rule Is Toast

By: Wayne KurtzmanResearch Director, Social and Collaboration

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight highlights responses from companies participating in the 2019 IDC Collaboration Study: The Collaborative Workforce. Who actively collaborates at work? The traditional 80:20 rule suggests that only 20% of employees would actively participate in collaboration, while 80% would passively review shared content. The results are starkly different: When collaborative applications are provided and managed, active collaboration is significantly more commonplace in the workplace. Simply, that age-old 80:20 rule is not accurate for predicting adoption of active collaboration.
