Abstract

This IDC study provides a forecast for the worldwide telecom infrastructure market from 2018 to 2023, specifically for compute and storage platforms. IDC estimates this market — which consists of hardware and software compute and storage platforms (including software-defined storage and compute) — to be nearly $13.1 billion in 2018. Further, IDC estimates that this market will grow at a CAGR of 5.0% and approach $17 billion in 2023.

"Telecoms are accelerating along the innovation curve," said Kuba Stolarski, research director for IDC's Infrastructure Systems, Platforms and Technologies group. "The shift to a software-defined infrastructure, in conjunction with the imminent adoption and deployment of 5G technologies, is helping telecoms position themselves for future expansion of next-generation communications services and, along with it, the necessary supporting compute and storage infrastructure."
