Worldwide Intelligent Process Automation Software Forecast, 2019–2023

By: Maureen FlemingProgram Vice President, Integration and Process Automation

Abstract

This IDC study provides a forecast for worldwide intelligent process automation software market and its submarkets for 2019–2023. In addition to the worldwide IPA forecast by three regions, segment and subsegment market forecasts include:

  • Decision-centric automation: Process mining and insights and event stream processing software used for process-oriented predictive and prescriptive analytics
  • Labor-centric automation: Capture software, process-centric application platforms, and robotic process automation software
  • System-centric process automation: Integration and API management software and the portion of event-driven middleware associated with process automation

"As enterprises make significant investments in talent acquisition, retention, and bringing gig economy thinking into the workforce, intelligent process automation attention will shift to focus on simplifying processes. As the atomic unit of work, tasks will play a central role," according to Maureen Fleming, program vice president, Intelligent Process Automation. "Rather than solely focused on automation, tasks will increasingly combine with assistive technologies to help human workers make decisions, organize and prioritize their work, and produce work. AI in combination with a broad set of automation technologies will, of course, underpin this."
