By: Shannon Kalvar Research Manager , IT Service Management and Client Virtualization
Abstract
This IDC study provides an analysis of the worldwide virtual client computing software market in calendar year 2018. The study includes the worldwide market revenue and growth rate for the total market in 2018 as well as revenue, market shares, and growth rates of the leading vendors (refer to Figure 1). A three-year history showing vendor revenue data and trends for 2016–2018 is also provided (refer to Table 1) along with worldwide revenue in current and constant dollars (refer to Figure 2) and worldwide revenue by region (refer to Figure 3) and by deployment type (refer to Figure 4).
"The virtual client computing market has passed its inflection point," commented Shannon Kalvar, research director, IT Service Management and Client Virtualization Software. "The market leaders have expanded from virtual clients into digital workspaces enabled by application disaggregation, intelligent workflow management, and content integration/management. In addition, a wave of new entrants focused exclusively on desktop as a service (DaaS) with innovative licensing and pricing models, which have in turn pushed license simplification into the entire market."
