How Much Do Tech Companies Spend on Marketing Versus Sales?
By: Kathleen Schaub Program Vice President, CMO Advisory & Customer Experience
Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight discusses the investment that tech companies make in marketing (programs and people) when compared with investment in sales (all costs). In IDC's 2018 Tech Marketing Investment Survey, IDC found that while the ratio for all companies in the survey is 83% sales and 17% marketing (weighted average), this ratio varies significantly by company size and sales model. This IDC Survey Spotlight provides details on this key performance indicator and examines why these factors make a significant difference.
