U.S. Consumer Fixed Broadband Services Forecast, 2019–2023

By: Amy LindResearch Manager, Broadband, Enterprise Voice & IP Communications Services, and Unified Communications

Abstract

This IDC study identifies and quantifies the consumer fixed broadband services market opportunity in the United States, including an assessment of the drivers and inhibitors influencing the deployment, marketing, and pricing of fixed broadband services and the adoption of broadband internet access by consumers. The study also presents forecast projections for the number of consumer fixed broadband subscribers by technology and the consumer broadband services revenue opportunity.

"Consumer fixed broadband is mature and is nearing saturation with more than three out of every four U.S. households expected to have a fixed broadband connection by 2023. Consumer demand for fixed broadband access continues to slow, but IDC anticipates that more than 7 million consumer fixed broadband subscriptions will be added over the next five years as the impact of 5G broadband services will be modest until the latter years of the forecast period." — Amy Lind, research manager, Consumer Multiplay and Broadband Services
