This IDC Market Perspective examines the recently announced acquisition of Carbon Black by VMware.
Enterprise spending on numerous forms of cybersecurity technologies and operations continues to increase year over year, but security incidents and data breaches are not decreasing in frequency or severity. A new approach is required according to VMware and IDC agrees. With VMware's announced acquisition of Carbon Black, VMware is taking another step forward in rewriting how security is conducted and making security, as VMware maintains, intrinsic. "However, changing established enterprises' security habits is hard and will require more than what Carbon Black brings to VMware," states Michael Suby, research VP, Endpoint Security. "Nevertheless, IDC applauds VMware for its drive to change the status quo and anxiously awaits its next steps."
