Digital Transformation KPIs Lag Investment Levels; Organization Transformation Underperforms Correspondingly

By: Shawn FitzgeraldResearch Director, Digital Transformation Strategies

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight presents key findings from IDC's 2019 Worldwide Digital Transformation Executive Sentiment Survey of 2,165 organizations spanning 27 countries across the Americas region, Western Europe, Asia/Pacific, and Japan. IDC's 2019 Worldwide Digital Transformation Executive Sentiment Survey also included 17 industries and was completed in September 2019.

"With direct digital transformation (DX) investment expected to be $8.2 trillion over the period from 2019 to 2023 and growing at a 17.5% CAGR, only 13.4% of companies are measuring and monitoring their DX investment performance in a holistic manner," states Shawn Fitzgerald, research director, IDC's Worldwide Digital Transformation. "Creating an empirical-based, data-driven culture is a key tenet of true digital transformation. Our most recent research data and analysis shows the vast majority of companies have not yet made this important pivot."
