Abstract

This IDC Survey details results from IDC's 2019 Consumer Internet of Things Survey, which was fielded in May 2019. The survey asked respondents questions regarding consumer adoption of and attitudes toward a variety of smart home applications, consumer electronics devices, online entertainment services, security and privacy concerns, and smart assistants. This IDC Survey focuses on aspects of the survey related to smart assistants.

"Smart assistants are quickly becoming the cornerstone of consumer IoT," said Adam Wright, senior research analyst for IDC's Smart Home program. "They have the potential to dramatically enhance the accessibility, use, and functionalities of connected devices and are emerging as a central mechanism through which consumers interact with their smart home ecosystem. Moreover, smart assistants have the potential to generate spillover effects and drive demand for tangential smart home devices, serving as a core driver of the broader market."
