By: Arnal DayaratnaResearch Director, Software Development

Abstract

This IDC Market Note examines the announcements that were made at SpringOne Platform 2019 by Pivotal.

At SpringOne Platform 2019, Pivotal announced its partnership with Microsoft to deliver Azure Spring Cloud, elaborated on the Pivotal Spring Cloud Gateway, and showcased tools that automate the modernization and transformation of legacy applications. Meanwhile, Pivotal continues to deepen its partnership with VMware to help enterprises build, run, and manage modern applications atop Kubernetes. Pivotal's partnership with Microsoft, the alpha release of Spring Cloud Gateway, and Pivotal's tools for application transformation are illustrative of a modern application development portfolio that can be used not only for the development of net-new cloud-native applications but also for the transformation and modernization of legacy applications. This dual capability to support new application development as well as application transformation initiatives differentiates Pivotal from competitors that have chosen to focus their developer tools initiatives on net-new cloud-native application development.
