Service Mesh Infrastructure — A Workloads Perspective
By: Sriram Subramanian Research Director, Infrastructure Systems, Platforms and Technologies Group
Abstract
This IDC Perspective explores the service mesh ecosystem from the point of view of enterprise workloads and provides best practices on adopting service mesh infrastructure including various consumption options. Service mesh infrastructure is expected to be a key component of enterprise IT infrastructure, providing a scalable, declarative, and developer-friendly platform to connect, secure, and manage both cloud-native and legacy applications.
"As enterprises are increasing their investments on cloud-based infrastructures, cloud-native applications, and processes, they need a scalable and programmable infrastructure abstraction to manage their applications across heterogeneous environments," said Sriram Subramanian, research director, Infrastructure System, Platforms, and Technologies Group at IDC. "Service mesh infrastructure platforms and services enable enterprises to connect, secure, and manage cloud-native applications and extend the benefits of fine-grained observability, increased security, and improved reliability to legacy applications as well."
