This IDC Survey discusses the strong commercial interest in augmented reality (AR) technology. IDC surveyed U.S. IT decision makers about their current and future plans around augmented reality and found that an increasing percentage of companies are already exploring the technology.
"Augmented reality technology is still in its earliest stages but many that hasn't stopped forward-thinking companies from experimenting with existing hardware, software, and services," said Tom Mainelli, IDC Group VP for Consumer and Devices. "Most early adopters are utilizing their existing mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets to kick the tires on AR, but an increasing number have also moved on to head-worn devices that help realize the full potential of the technology. Companies using AR now will benefit from a substantial head start as the use cases evolve and products evolve."
