U.S. PaaS Adoption and Use Plans
This IDC Survey looks at companies that use and plan to use platform services on the public cloud and covers United States–based organizations having 250+ employees. Respondents included both IT professionals and line-of-business (LOB) executives with software development oversight who had decisioning-making responsibility or influence using or planning to use cloud in the next 12 months. The survey is not intended to compare/contrast adoption of one cloud versus another but will highlight preferences associated with cloud platform-as-a-service (PaaS) resources and solutions and related technologies. It includes survey data from 303 United States–based respondents and covers topics including the benefits of PaaS implementations, considerations while choosing PaaS solutions, priority of tools used with PaaS solutions, frequency of functionality release with and without PaaS, challenges encountered during PaaS implementations, and goals expected from containers/serverless applications.
"After security, this survey found cloud native, speed of development, and integration to be the top considerations in choosing a PaaS solution," said Larry Carvalho, research director, Platform as a Service, IDC. "As expected, the frequency of code deployments is much higher in PaaS environments compared with non-PaaS environments, but a surprising portion of respondents said that 50%+ of their applications are already portable."
