This IDC Market Glance provides a glimpse at the current makeup of the digitally enabled robotics market landscape.
Robotics has historically been organized or classified based on a variety of perspectives including by form factor, class or subclass of robot, operational use case, sector-related context, functionality, and more. Such classifications are not entirely incorrect and reflect instead the robotic market in its broad variety and are generally centered toward the robot, and not always consider the full span of robotics.
Digitally enabled robotics is IDC's vision of robotics as a critical enabler for the digital enterprise, and in the context of IDC's vision for the Future of Operations. It does not come in opposition to IDC's broad definition of robotics. Instead, it supports the positioning and impact of the technology beyond its traditional operational-centric boundaries and takes into consideration the recent evolution of digital tools such as AI, connectivity, analytics, and networking.
