Wave 7: The Latest Worldwide 2020 Printer Spending Data Shows Notably More Neutrality Anticipated for This Directional Trend

By: Keith KmetzProgram Vice President, Imaging, Printing & Document Solutions

Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight examines the Wave 7 data collected from June 22 through July 6, 2020, and compares it with the past six data sets, starting in March. This data shows a return to expected spending habits on print first observed in March.

In this seventh data set, the worldwide printer spending trend offers less negativity in the responses, but this is mitigated by a slightly lower level of positive responses. The most notable change is the dramatic increase in neutral responses versus the early June data. This may indicate some return to normalcy in worldwide printer spending trends as it also represents some conversion of previously negative and positive responses to neutral perspective.

We continue to examine the massive impact that the COVID-19 crisis has had on the global economy and IT spending. Its presence has literally shutdown worldwide operations in business, in education, and across all facets of society.

In this latest data set, IDC combines the responses from Waves 1-7 to provide a timeline over the past three months regarding the perceptions and expectations for worldwide printer spending trends.
