IDC Government Insights Opens Public Voting for the 2020 Finalists of the Smart City Asia Pacific Awards (SCAPA)
63 Asia/Pacific* Smart City Initiatives Competing to be Named Best of the Best in 14 IDC Smart City Functional eService Categories
SINGAPORE, March 16, 2020 – For more than five years, IDC has been tracking the developments of smart city initiatives in the Asia/Pacific public sector through its Smart City Asia/Pacific Awards (SCAPA) program. The awards program reached new heights, as IDC Government Insights received over 215 smart city initiatives from the public sector and technology suppliers, with 63 of said projects named as finalists across 14 functional eService Categories.
Citizens can vote for the deserving finalists at www.idc.com/ap/smartcities, and stand a chance to win the latest smartphone through an electronic raffle after the announcement of the Asia/Pacific winners in May 2020.
“Each year, we are humbled and pleased with the continually growing number of public nominations and interests for our annual SCAPA awards. The selection of our 63 finalists across 14 categories was by no means an easy feat. IDC Analysts from across all 13 APEJ* countries contributed to the analysis, benchmarking, and evaluation of the projects according to IDC’s Smart City assessment framework,” shares Gerald Wang, Associate Research Director, Head of Public Sector at IDC Asia/Pacific.
Wang adds, “The current global COVID-19 pandemic has further strengthened cities’ resolve to create cutting-edge ‘live, learn, work and play’ digital ecosystems; for instance, remote working, tele-diagnostics, and digital population health monitoring. Many finalist projects are increasingly driving city services integration and automation through Artificial Intelligence and Analytics - all spurred on by clear outcomes-based objectives that complies to regulatory, security and privacy concerns, and yet sufficiently personalized for enhanced constituent use experiences.”
IDC SCAPA was created to recognize the top smart city initiatives of public sector agencies that have excelled across the 14 Smart City functional eService categories. This year, the 14 categories are:

All finalists were selected using IDC’s Smart City Development Index framework, a rigorous six-phase benchmarking process that involves input from various stakeholders, including the public. Public/citizen voting is the second phase of this framework and constitutes 25% in the judging criteria to determine the Best of the Best in 14 Smart City functional eService categories.
